Botanical Name: Turnera diffusa

A small shrub between 30 - 50cm high with small yellow flowers and small narrow leaves with serrated edges. Native to mexico Damiana likes a well drained sunny position and is happy in a rocky garden. It is an aromatic plant and was popular with the Mayans as an aphrodisiac.

Medicinal Uses

Historically, damiana was used by the ancient Mayans as a treatment for sexually related problems, including fertility and impotence and to increase sexual desire.

Research has shown that damiana is a natural antidepressant and can help fight against anxiety.

It has also been used for urinary system health, to help digestion and regulate menstruation.

Damiana has been used throughout history as effective pain relief, for symptoms including headaches and menstrual cramps.

An infusion of damiana is one of the most popular and easiest ways to enjoy the wide array of benefits this herb has to offer.

A well-known herbal high and some people find that smoking a mixture of damiana and passionflower can minimise withdrawal symptoms common when quitting cigarette smoking and has a relaxing effect which some fine can promote lucid dreaming.
